Boulder shoots suspect on trial on 43 new charges in King Soopers attack

The 21-year-old man from Arvada who is accused of killing ten people in a Boulder grocery store last month, is now facing more than 40 charges of crimes related to the attack.

Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, who has already been charged with ten counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder, now stands at 54 charges, according to a motion filed Wednesday in Boulder County District Court.

The prosecutor’s office requested that Alissa be charged with 32 new charges of attempted first-degree murder. The victims of murder identified in the motion are 11 police officers – including two who initially entered the store with the slain officer Eric Talley and nine others who participated in the second entry – and seven civilians.

Several charges of attempted murder are handed down to most, but not all, identified victims.

Alissa will also be charged with one count of assault and ten counts of transporting prohibited magazines with large capacity.

Authorities believe Alissa brought two guns to the King Soopers on Table Mesa Drive in Boulder on March 22 and opened fire just after 2.30pm, killing customers, shop staff and a responding police officer. Those who were in the store hid or fled, while many escaped at the back.

People hiding in the store said the shooter’s violence was quiet for a long time, while all they could hear was the automatic announcements and music from the store, or a cell phone rang occasionally.
