Boston Celtics sign the former no. 2 overall choice Jabari Parker to

The Boston Celtics have signed former No. 2 overall Jabari Parker, the team announced Friday.

At just 26 years old, Parker has only played a combined 41 games in the past two seasons – including only three this season for the Sacramento Kings before retiring last month. He has also played for four teams over the past three seasons – the Kings, Atlanta Hawks, Washington Wizards and Chicago Bulls.

The Duke University product averaged 14.8 points for his career and shot down nearly 50% from the field, but struggled to realize his potential after suffering a few ACL tears in his right knee early in his career, including one just a couple of months into his rookie season in 2014.

Whenever Parker can officially clear the NBA health and safety protocols and join the team, he will likely compete with Semi Oeieye and Grant Williams a few minutes behind Jayson Tatum as the team’s backup.

The Celtics dropped center Moritz Wagner, who acquired them on a deadline last month, along with fellow center Luke Kornet to sign a roster for Parker.
