Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen says it is ‘too dangerous’ to continue casting in future films

Sacha Baron Cohen plays Borat Sagdiyev and there will be no future films.

The 49-year-old actor and comedian told Entertainment Tonight that he feels it is too dangerous to continue the character.

“It’s got too dangerous,” Baron Cohen said of the filming. “There were a few times I had to put on a bulletproof vest to go shoot a scene, and you don’t want to do that too many times in your life. I was pretty lucky to get out this time, so no “I will not do it again. I will stick to the pieces of text.”

Baron Cohen first portrays the fictional journalist from Kazakhstan in 2006’s “Borat” for which he won a Golden Globe Award.

In the film, Borat travels to America to make a documentary and entertain people who do not know that it is a character.

Baron Cohen once again puts on the iconic mustache for the 2020 sequel, “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.”

At one scene, Baron Cohen says he was worried about his safety.

“The night before something like that – that rally – you try to go through everything that can go wrong,” he recalls. “In a normal scene like we do, we try to make sure ‘How do I make my actions real. Did I do my research? How do I make sure the accent is perfect?’ In this one you go, ‘” “Okay, if there’s a bunch of guys with guns coming from that side of the stage, do I have a way to get out? What happens if someone shoots me? What if a bunch of people start shooting me?”

He wore a bulletproof vest to the scene and revealed that the production team had made him an amplifier that was basically bombproof ‘to hide in, just in case.

“I do not want to do it again. I got away with it. I do not strive for my happiness again,” Baron Cohen admitted.

For his work in the sequel, Baron Cohen was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 2021 for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy and Maria Bakalova, who plays Cohen’s daughter in the film, is nominated for Best Actress in a Musical or comedy.
