Bond, Uncharted and Ghostbusters movies are all delayed

Hollywood has decided tonight to move their films back – including James Bond’s latest outing No time to die, the Unknown movie, and Ghostbusters: the afterlife. No time to die now has a release date of October 8, Ghostbusters will be pushed back five months to November 11, and Unknown only now 2022 arrives, Exhibitor Relations reports.

Bond was the big movie whose third delay was enough to force the theater chains Regal and Cineworld to close all their establishments in America and the United Kingdom. It was originally planned for April 2020, and was then pushed back to November 2020 and now to April 2021. If you count it, this news is the fourth delay. Instead of releasing the movie, as other studios have done, MGM seems determined to premiere the movie in theaters – but by the time it’s safe, there might not be that many.

AMC has warned investors that the money will run low, and that other theaters may not survive by mid-2021 either. So the Bond franchise is not a good sign.

We can probably expect even more films to be delayed, as delays are also delayed, as only a certain number of films can successfully premiere at physical theaters within a certain time.

We’re not heard of Disney yet, but you can also add delays to Edgar Wright’s Last night in Soho! (now 22 October) and Sony’s Cinderella (now 16 July) to the stack.
