Boeing tests pilotless fighter jets in Australia’s Outback

Boeing Co and the Australian Air Force have a test flight of an unmanned fighter aircraft designed to cooperate with aircraft crew in combat.

The Loyal Wingman aircraft was flown at different speeds and altitudes by a pilot on a land control station in the South Australian Outback, Boeing in a statement.

More flights are planned for later this year. According to Boeing, the autonomous aircraft can be equipped with different payloads and sensors according to the mission.

“Boeing and Australia are pioneering work for fully integrated combat operations by crew members and unmanned aircraft,” said Leanne Caret, president of Boeing Defense, Space & Security, in the statement.
