BLM protesters in Brussels pelt the Belgian king’s car with rocks

Black Lives Matter protests erupted in downtown Brussels, with protesters setting fire to, vandalizing a police vehicle and allegedly throwing stones at the Belgian monarch’s car.

King Philippe was traveling home from his offices in Brussels on Wednesday to his castle, Laeken Palace, when his car was surrounded, according to local reports and images of the scene.

Photos from the European Pressphoto Agency show the king’s car amid the protest; a few security guards were on foot protecting the vehicle, which can be identified by the number plate on which the number ‘1’ appears.

There were no reports of injuries to the king or damage to his vehicle.

Four people were detained on Thursday during the protest, three of whom are charged with arson.

About 500 people protested on the death of a 23-year-old black man, whose identity has not been officially revealed, on Saturday.

The suspect tried to run away from police in Brussels enforcing COVID-19 restrictions in the city center, officials said.
