Blizzard’s Diablo II Remaster supports your old storage files

DiabloII Risen

Last month, Blizzard announced Diablo II: Risen. It’s a remaster of the base game and Lord of Destruction, and it’s coming to the Nintendo Switch and several other platforms this year. If you happen to be a returning player, you may know that you will be able to use the savings of the original game on a computer.

In conversation with IGN, game producer Matthew Cederquist explained how originally there was no support for storing files for more than two decades. The team just tried it and it works casually.

‘When we worked on it [the remaster], we were wondering if the old storage files would work and we kind of pushed it in and it worked. And we were like, ‘okay, this is the best feature ever’. ”

Although there was no mention of this feature with the console versions of the game, the remaster supports cross-progression. In theory, you should be able to load your old PC file into the computer version and then use it on the console platform of your choice.

Even if you do not have your original savings, it technically means that you can start leveling up a character of your choice in the original PC version (available on Battle.Net), as the remaster is the same game with new sound and graphics, and some other changes such as improved user interface, an extended stash and revamped learning seasons.

Do you still have access to your old Diablo II files that you saved? Will you revive your old buildings? Leave a comment below.
