Blackmagic Design has announced the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro, which it calls a more powerful enhanced version of the popular camcorder with a brighter HDR touch screen, built-in ND filters, a larger battery and more.
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K has an SLR-like design, and the Pro model continues this aesthetic. It features a handle with a control layout similar to mirrorless still cameras, with easy access to settings such as ISO, white balance, closing angle and recording. Although it has not changed, and the sensor also seems to be the same, and the experience around it.
The Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro features the same 6144 × 3456 pixels Super 35 sensor and EF lens mount found on the original Cinema Camera 6K, but the Pro adds a built-in 2, 4 and 6-stop motorized ND filters , adjustable tilt Full HD (1920 × 1080 pixels) HDR LCD with a brightness of 1500 nit peak and two mini-XLR audio inputs, as well as a larger Sony battery of NP-F570 style.
As a note on the screen it now tilts to easily see it from above. On the screen coverages, status and record parameters, histogram, focus peak indicators, levels, frame guides and more are indicated.
As with the original 6K camera, the Pro records with standard open file formats. It supports standard 10-bit Apple ProRes files in all formats up to 4K or 12-bit Blackmagic RAW in all formats up to 6K.
The Pro model also uses the same ‘generation 5’ color science as the high-performance URSA Mini Pro 12K, giving you access to a new dynamic 12-bit gamma curve designed to capture more color data in highlights and shadows.
“Color science also handles complex Blackmagic RAW image processing, so that the data of color and dynamic range of the sensor are stored via metadata that customers can use in post-production,” writes Blackmagic.
The last major upgrade of the Pro model is the addition of an optional viewfinder attached to the warm shoe. Blackmagic will sell 1280 × 960 color OLED screens with a built-in proximity sensor with a 4-element glass diopter that also supports a 70-degree rotation range. It also comes with four different types of eye shells for both left and right eye. The viewfinder is available for $ 495.
