Black Ops Cold War DMR is so overwhelming that it makes Warzone ‘unplayable’, say fans • Eurogamer.net

If you recently played Call of Duty: Warzone, you have no doubt encountered the controversial DMR 14 – or possibly even used it yourself.

The DMR 14, a weapon added to the battle kingdom as part of the integration of Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, currently dominates the Warzone meta. Dominance is too soft to state it – the DMR is considered essential to success, and it’s absolutely everywhere.

The DMR 14 is a semi-automatic tactical rifle, with increased firing speed and minimum recoil. It is devastating due to long rage and maintains reliable damage to down enemies in the blink of an eye.

The DMR is so powerful that it can wipe out a group within seconds, but only a few well-placed bursts that inflict the kind of damage other weapons need to sustain. The DMR also performs at the kind of range you want for commitments in Warzone – far enough away to pick enemies without them having the time to respond.

It’s really unplayable now. RIP Warzone Season 1 of r / COD Warzone

Warzone, of course, had previously been considered overwhelming weapons, but what highlighted the rise of the DMR is a new issue at play: gun balance struck by the integration of weapons from a very different game.

Black Ops weapons in the Cold War currently dominate the Warzone meta, something the community predicted would happen. Black-Ops Cold War’s MAC-10 SMG is considered the best near option currently in the game, with the Black Ops Cold War pistol Diamatti in Akimbo also being a popular choice.

As you would expect, the memes started. Here is an excerpt:

A nerve is expected and I’m sure it will come, but there is a feeling that Black Ops Cold War rifles will dominate in the short to medium term. This is the issue Warzone is currently fighting. As Infinity Ward moves from Warzone, Raven Software is the current custodian. As new weapons are added to the Black Ops Cold War for use in the Treyarch-built multiplayer, Raven is tasked with making them work in Warzone. In this context, weapon balance sounds like a nightmare job. These guns are powered by two separate engines: the one that powered the Black Ops Cold War and the Warzone. Perhaps it was inevitable that Season One of both games would eventually wreak havoc.

While we wait for a nerve, maybe pack a riot shield. Just in case.
