Biomutant, the hairy martial arts RPG, will be released on May 25

Biomutant caught our attention three years ago, with ambitious promises to be an open world, a post-apocalyptic action RPG with a mutant protagonist who knows kung fu. Now it has an issue date of May 25, on which we will know which of these ambitions survived.

Stefan Ljungqvist, creative director of the game, spoke to Colm about the game last year and discussed the world and its systems:

And, if it’s right, it sounds like a lot of the ambitions have survived. It had the airships, the mutant protagonist, the battle and kung fu battle. It also had submarines, gliders, climbs and more. Breath Of The Wild certainly looks like a good point of comparison, and Ljungqvist compared it to Zelda, but with more emphasis on fighting.

I would love to play it. It’s not so often that there’s a game with the scope and apparent budget of Biomutant that looks so quirky, or that is not part of an existing series. I hope the systems and the open world design are just as interesting as the environment.

We have not seen anything more from Biomutant since the above footage from back in June 2020, and we have not yet had the chance to play the game ourselves. Hopefully that will change soon. In the announcement date of THQ Nordic, ‘more information about the game will be announced in the coming weeks and months’.
