Billy Brown, ‘Alaska Bush People’ star, dies at 68

Billy Brown, patriarch of the “Alaskan Bush People”, has died at the age of 68.

Reps for the show confirmed his death to Fox News Monday.

“We are devastated to hear of Billy Brown’s sudden departure. He has been part of the Discovery family for years – a pioneer, a sweet man and certainly one of a kind,” the statement said. “Our hearts go out to his family and those who knew and loved him as they dealt with this devastating loss.”

Brown appears in the first eight seasons of the show as the father of the self-sufficient live-off-the-country family, along with his wife, Ami, via IMDb.

According to People Magazine, Billy’s son Bear also addressed the death on his private Instagram, confirming that he died on Sunday after having an attack.

“We are saddened to announce that our beloved Patriarch Billy Brown passed away last night after suffering an attack,” the caption read via exhaust valve. “He was our best friend – a wonderful and loving father, grandfather and husband and he will be greatly missed.”

Bear, 33, added: “He lived his life on his terms, off the roster and off the country, and taught us to live that way too. We plan to honor his legacy going forward and continue with his dream. “We ask for privacy and prayers during this painful time. God bless everyone!”

In 2017, the Brown family moved to Washington after Ami, 57, was diagnosed with lung cancer so she could get treatment.

According to the outlet, they moved to a 435-acre property in the North Cascade Mountains. In 2018, she was told she was cancer free.

The diagnosis comes after a handful of strange symptoms, as Ami told People at the time.

“I had pain in my back,” she said. “If I walk from the house to the garden, I will get wind. There were days that I was just lying in bed, but I just thought it was my arthritis. We filmed the show and sometimes it was just what I could do to just standing there – I was in so much pain. ‘

She went on to say, ‘When we shot a promotion, I told them,’ There’s something wrong. ‘In December [2016] I went to the dentist to make an impression for new teeth and when they did a scan, they noticed a small capsule. This is how it all started. ‘

The 12th season of ‘Alaskan Bush People’ aired its last episode on Discovery in October.
