The Oscar-nominated actor was honored with the Maltin Modern Master Award at the 36th Santa Barbara International Film Festival this week. During a virtual live panel discussion, Murray spoke about his career and his fear of the sequel.

“I was very, very reluctant to do that. I was in no hurry. I probably thought the only reason anyone wanted another one was just to make money. And I was probably the most reluctant,” he said. he explains (via Collider).

However, Murray revealed that he was ‘outfoxed’ by someone who had the entire cast in a meeting to draft a film that did not ultimately reflect the final Ghostbusters II screenplay.

‘I do not know if [director Ivan Reitman] set it up, but they let us all get together in a room again, and really, we had not been in a room together since the movie appeared, and it was really nice to be together. We were really funny together, “he said. These are some amazing guys and girls. Sigourney [Weaver] and Annie Potts are some very spectacular women and funny. They got us all together and broadcast a story idea that was really great. I thought, ‘Holy cow, we can make this work.’ “

Unfortunately, the script between that meeting and then Murray and the others showed up to draft.

‘It was ultimately not the story they wrote. They found us in the sequel under false pretenses. Harold [Ramis] had this amazing idea, but when we had to shoot it, I showed up on the set and went, ‘What the hell is this? What is this thing? “Add Murray.” But we’d already shot it, so we had to figure out how to make it work. ‘

Although he has noticed that he likes the first film better, Murray stops calling the sequel bad. In fact, he was one of the many cast members who held on to the franchise and participated in the 2016 recharge that Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones saw. He will repeat his role as Venkman in the upcoming third installment in the canonical franchise, written by Reitman’s son, Jason. Murray closed his thoughts on the “Ghostbusters” franchise by noting how excited he is for the next film despite the discomfort he felt about filming it.

“I think he really got something. It was hard. It was really hard. That’s why I think it’s going to be good. We were just in it for a while, but it was physically painful,” he said. “It’s extremely uncomfortable to carry the packs. We have batteries as big as batteries. They now have batteries the size of earrings. It’s always a very heavy thing to carry.”
