Bsick Maher has (almost) never found a famous man accused of misconduct he did not want to defend. The late-night comic strip, which once warned that the #MeToo movement creates a ‘police state’ for sex, defended Chris Matthews of MSNBC after he was accused of sexual harassment (and mocked his accuser for a good way); defended friend Al Franken, accused of non-consensual touch and kissing; defended former Trump friend Corey Lewandowski after being caught on tape bumping into a reporter; repeatedly smeared Joe Biden’s accused, Tara Reade, whose lawyer later accused him of “recycling old rape myths”; and once argued that married men sexually harass women “because they have shit sex life.” There are, of course, many more examples; it’s just a foretaste.
This brings us to Friday night’s Real time with Bill Maher, where the political satirist took it upon himself to defend Hollywood actor Armie Hammer, who is accused of emotional and physical abuse by a number of women. According to Maher, “feminism” may be the real culprit here.
‘I think we can talk about this in connection with the place where feminism is, because Armie Hammer apparently has a penchant for announcing that he wants to’ eat ‘it. And who does not want to be eaten by Armie Hammer? Come, ”Begin Maher. When one woman in the audience cheered, Maher exclaimed, ‘Exactly my point. Thank you – one honest woman. ”
Hammer, the 34-year-old star of films such as The social network and Call me by your name, was initially scrutinized when leaked Instagram DMs were released by the account @houseofeffie in which he expressed fantasies of cannibals, rapes and kidnappings to women. Unfortunately, some members of the media and the public then began to merge the actor’s twists with the real allegations of coercion and emotional and physical abuse.
“Apparently this is something called ‘ethical human cannibalistic fetishism’. No real women were eaten while making this movie. They just talk. They have his lyrics, where he said things, ‘I want to take out your rib and cook with braai sauce,’ ‘Maher says. “We are in such a porn-centric society – people have been watching really hardcore porn for so long that ‘spank you’ no longer cuts it.” (So apparently porn is to blame for Hammer’s fetishes, based on … what exactly?)
Maher then portrayed Hammer’s prosecutors as women who had simply had a change of heart: ‘My point is that the women who are now objecting to this, who willingly went out with Armie Hammer and willingly stayed in – and there was no physical . bad things happen, OK … we can all agree that it’s unbearable – but if there was no physical coercion, why not just submit it, ‘It seemed like a good idea at the time – to let Armie Hammer me eat – but it really was not. “It seems we have no choice. ”
One of the Real Time panelists, TIME corresponding Charlotte Alter, opposed that ‘there were any physical things’ between Hammer and his accused. ‘Some of the women claimed there was some slapping. One woman said he carved his initials into her body, ‘Alter added.
“Did he tie her up and do it?” Maher fired back. ‘I do not think so.’
This is where we need to go exactly what Hammer is accused of. One of the first women to appear in public and accuse Hammer of misconduct was Courtney Vucekovich, an entrepreneur and app founder, who told Page Six that the actor had forced her into an insecure relationship and forced her into ‘dangerous situations’ where I was not OK, ”Including sexual.
“He takes care of you quickly in the relationship,” she told Page Six. ‘He fascinates your kind, and though he is charming, he cares for you for these things that are darker and heavier and more consuming. When I say consumption, I mean mentally, physically, emotionally, financially, just about anything. Vucekovich claims she had to be hospitalized for 30 days with PTSD she suffered after going out with Hammer.

Then there was 22-year-old Paige Lorenze, who said that Hammer sent nude photos to other people without her permission, and emotionally manipulated her into repeatedly bruising him, encouraging her to “show off” the points and be “proud” of them. She claims that Hammer “liked to hurt women but used BDSM as a mask for this”, and told Page Six that she had been in trauma therapy since then due to the ordeal.
A number of other women have come forward anonymously to @houseofeffie, claiming that Hammer exceeded their limits and that they experienced abusive behavior from him.
“Women approached me with their storytelling while we were overwhelmed days and nights of sadness without sleeping or eating, and some ended up in the ER,” the person who runs @houseofeffie wrote in an Instagram story. (Hammer, who was fired from film and TV projects, fired from his agency and beaten by his estranged wife, denied all the allegations.)
Cut back to Maher, who insisted Real time that all the women who accused Hammer said that everything was’ consensus’, and that ‘I think he’s exactly the man in the book Fifty shades of gray, which I think was the most popular book ever among women … He’s this rich, attractive, movie star guy, and he has a nod. ‘
He then explicitly admits Hammer’s accusers – again: ‘If you go swimming with the alpha sharks, it will not work out well in the end. Don’t you need to know? I mean, is it really that hard to find out without the law getting involved? Maher asserts, adding, “He’s a cad!”
Maher incidentally has his own checkered past with women. Actress and activist Rose McGowan recently accused Maher of harassing her when she was a guest on his show: ‘I was in your show Politically wrong in the late ’90s – when the show returned from a commercial break, you leaned over me and whispered in my ear,’ my parents did not give me a good face, but they gave me a big cock ” , she wrote, adding: ‘I could feel your warm breath on my ear as an image of both your horrible face and supposed big cock flashed in my mind. Both twisted my stomach. I have always wondered what you say and do to the girls who are not famous? ‘
