Big Hit Entertainment and Universal Music Group join forces to launch a new global boys’ group!
On February 18, KST, the two companies made a joint announcement about their strategic partnership, which recently began their collaboration to make VenewLive (the digital live streaming platform that Big Hit uses for its online concerts) a global platform.
In a video featuring Universal Music Group Chairman and CEO Lucian Grainge, Big Hit Entertainment Chairman and CEO Bang Si Hyuk, and Big Hit Entertainment CEO Lenzo Yoon (Yoon Seok Joon), the companies have officially announced that they are launching an artist debut project that will include an audition program.
Lenzo Yoon said: ‘Together with Universal Music Group, Big Hit Entertainment will be a new boy group that will be active on the world stage. We will select the members through a global audition and we aim to broadcast this audition program in 2022 with an American media partner. ‘
He went on to say that Big Hit would be tasked with training the artists, while Universal Music Group would co-produce the audition program with US media partners.
“In this project, Big Hit Entertainment is responsible for the discovery and training of artists, production of fan content and communication with fans by Weverse,” Lenzo Yoon explained. “Universal Music Group will use their powerful local network and will oversee music production, worldwide distribution and the production of the audition program with US media partners.”
He later added: ‘A Los Angeles-based joint venture will be the label that oversees this new group. Big Hit will work closely with Universal Music Group through Big Hit America, our American arm. ”
