The Biden government intends to close the controversial detention facility at Guantanamo Bay at the end of the term, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said on Friday.
In her daily newsletter, Psaki said the administration has begun a process with the National Security Council to investigate steps to close the facility. She said it was “definitely our goal and our intention” to close the controversial prison, which is a priority for former president. Barack Obama was what he could not fulfill.
Psaki said various policy roles in the cabinet still need to be filled as the government moves forward with the effort. The pressure to close the facility would be a ‘robust process between agencies’, Psaki said.
