Biden will not end Trump’s pandemic travel restrictions

WASHINGTON Elected President Joe Biden, incoming White House press secretary, says his government does not intend to lift coronavirus travel restrictions for Europe, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Brazil.

Jen Psaki’s message came Monday night after the White House said President Donald Trump lifted restrictions on those countries on January 26.

Psaki then tweeted: “On the advice of our medical team, the Administration does not intend to lift these restrictions at 1/26.”

She added: “We plan to strengthen the health measures surrounding international travel to further mitigate the spread of COVID-19.”

Trump introduced the travel restrictions early in the pandemic to slow the spread of the coronavirus to the US. They prevented most people from traveling to the US from the regions concerned without US citizenship or right of residence.
