Former Kansas Senator Bob Dole announced on Thursday that he was starting treatment for stage 4 lung cancer.
“While there are definitely some obstacles ahead of me, I also know that I join millions of Americans who have significant health issues,” Dole said in a statement at the time.
Dole (97) is a World War II veteran, former leader of the Senate majority and in 1996 was the Republican Party’s presidential candidate. His political career spans nearly five decades.
Although Biden was viewed from both sides of the aisle, he regards the Dole as his good friend, the White House said.
Bob Dole and Biden were Senate colleagues from 1973 to 1996.
