The executive order, signed in the final moments of the Trump presidency, immediately viewed the condemnation of architects as aesthetically pleasing, although relatively poorly enforced. The order only had a preference for classical styles in future buildings and did not prohibit brutalism.
“While we are concerned about the government’s decision to proceed with the design mandate, we are pleased that the assignment does not go as far as previously thought,” said Robert Ivy, CEO of the American Institute of Architects. said in a statement at the time.
It was one of a number of Trump-era executive orders that annulled the Biden White House on Wednesday. Biden also recalled an order threatening funding for cities that the Trump administration felt limited support for local police amid anti-racist protests in the summer. Biden has also instituted an executive action that halted new visas amid the economic crisis of coronavirus.
