President Joe Biden announced on Saturday that Americans will receive their stimulus checks this month, after Senate Democrats implemented his $ 1.9 billion stimulus package.

“With this plan, the American people who need such help will start coming out of the door this month, many of whom are in bed at night, staring at the ceiling and wondering, ‘Will I lose my job if I have not already not? Will I lose my insurance? Will I lose my house? ” Biden said.

In his prepared remarks in the White House, Biden noted that when he took office in January, he promised that ‘help was on the way’ and that the use of the stimulus package was an attempt to keep the promise.

The package includes direct payments of $ 1,400 to individuals earning up to $ 80,000 a year, or couples earning up to $ 160,000, according to their most recent tax documents.

Although the Democrats wanted to increase the federal minimum wage to $ 15, they omitted it from the package after a Senate official said it would violate the rules of the reconciliation process.

In addition to just the controls, the stimulus package also offers $ 300 unemployed assistance per week that will run through the summer, money for the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, a new child tax credit program designed to reduce child poverty on a large scale, and assistance for small business schools as well as local and state governments.

“This country has suffered too much,” Biden said on Saturday. “And everything in this package is designed to alleviate the suffering and provide for the most urgent needs of the country and put us in a better position to rule, to start beating this virus and vaccinating the country.”

The stimulus package should return to the House of Representatives, which is expected to approve the bill early next week before Biden can sign it.
