President Joe Biden said Monday that the U.S. is on track to achieve two major goals in the next ten days: administering more than 100 million COVID-19 vaccine doses and sending 100 million stimulus controls.
“Over the next ten days, we will achieve two huge goals. The first is that 100 million shots in the arms of people will be completed in the next ten days, and 100 million checks in their pockets,” Biden said during a speech. during the White House.
“Weapon shots and money in pockets – that’s important,” he added.
The U.S. reached its first goal on Friday, exceeding the standard of 100 million shots fired. The figure includes doses in Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna’s two – shot regimens and Johnson & Johnson’s one – shot vaccine.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 71 million Americans received at least one vaccine dose as of Monday, including 38.3 million who had been fully vaccinated. This means that one in five American adults has received at least one vaccine dose.
The Biden administration has recently made significant investments in the U.S. vaccine supply. It plans to obtain enough vaccines for all American adults by the end of May.
The president announced for the first time in his first speech to the American people on Thursday that the government will order states and localities to allow every adult to be vaccinated by May 1st.
Biden also confirmed that he would appoint former national economic adviser Gene Sperling to oversee the implementation of the US rescue plan, the comprehensive $ 1.9 billion COVID-19 aid package that Biden signed on Thursday.
The bill includes $ 1,400 stimulus checks for people below certain income thresholds and other direct assistance to families. It follows the bill signed by President Donald Trump in December and entitles $ 600 checks to individuals.
“We’re just getting started,” Biden said Monday. “By the time all the money was handed out, 85% of U.S. households had received $ 1,400 rescue checks.”
Some people have already received their payments, and millions more Americans will get it in their bank accounts on Wednesday. People can check the status of their check with the IRS ‘Get My Payment’ tool.
