Biden ignores question over promise of stimulus test

President Biden on Thursday ignored a question about the timing of stimulus tests, after promising the American people earlier this year that they would receive $ 2,000 checks immediately if the Democrats won the Senate.

Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked Biden about this promise at the end of an event in which the president made remarks commemorating 50 million doses of vaccine administered in the US within 37 days.

“Mr. President, what also happened to your promise seven weeks ago that if the Democrats turn the Senate around, the checks will go out the door?” Doocy can be heard asking.

Biden did not answer any questions from the media, but returned to the podium to pick up his mask, which he apparently forgot to put on again.

During the Atlanta campaign in January, the president told voters that $ 2,000 checks would be on hand if Democratic Senate candidates won their run-off contests.

“Their election will end the block in Washington on that $ 2,000 stimulus test – that money will immediately go out the door to help people who are really in trouble,” Biden told the crowd.

Both Democrats won their runoff games, effectively giving the party a majority in the Senate, as the casting vote would be cast by Vice President Kamala Harris.

Democrats are currently working on a $ 1.9 billion relief package, which includes a round of $ 1,400 direct payments to U.S. households. A vote in the House may take place within the next few days.

The package, which does not have dual support, could continue through a rapid process known as budget reconciliation, allowing Democrats to pass certain spending measures without any Republican approval.

The legislation also includes aid to state and local governments, money for the distribution of vaccines and extensive unemployment benefits.

Lawmakers hope to pass the aid by mid-March, when federal unemployment insurance benefits expire.
