Border patrol agents pulled about 168,000 people to the southern border in March, a 20-year high. Yet neither President Joe Biden nor Vice President Kamala Harris, whom he has appointed as head of dealing with the “causes” of the migratory upswing, have decided to visit the border – or, indeed, have done anything about the crisis. to address, including the “core causes.” Clearly, they simply do not care.
Biden’s ‘border tsar’ last month acknowledged that the government had sent ‘mixed messages’ to migrants. Was that honest frustration part of the reason she announced her resignation on Friday, not even three months in office?
Central Americans do not seem to think the messages are confusing at all: the number of illegal migrant encounters at the border rose by more than 71 percent from February to March because Biden’s policy says “Come in!” His first day in office, the prez ordered that all wall construction at the border be terminated and that the deportations be interrupted for 100 days.
And he did not look back, despite the record high number of migrants and worse, unaccompanied minors in federal custody. His budget plan for 2022 calls for increased spending by 16 percent – but not a penny for border security.
The only step Team Biden has even considered is to send cash to Central Americans to keep them where they are. It offers no details, with current ex-border Tsar Roberta Jacobson simply saying, “The one thing I can promise you is that the US government is not going to hand out money or checks to people.” Yet most of the aid America has sent to the region has gone to corrupt governments – why does Biden think his money will change the game in any way?
Taxpayers are already spending more than $ 60 million a week on the 16,500 unaccompanied minors in custody. Biden and Harris called the facilities where they live inhumane when Donald Trump was in the White House, but their government has a record number of children in custody. Their policies only encourage families to send their children on the perilous journey. Smugglers have literally dropped a 3- and a 5-year-old across the border, and the pair are still doing nothing to discourage the exercise.
But, of course, they cannot address the ‘root causes’ of the boom without acknowledging the huge role that their own policies play. Expect things to get worse.
