Biden discusses first press conference after 100 years without one

President Biden will hold his first press conference in the White House on March 25, his press secretary Jen Psaki said on Tuesday.

Biden broke a more than century-old record without a press conference as a new president, and received widespread criticism from news outlets.

“President Biden is holding a formal press conference on the afternoon of Thursday, March 25,” Psaki said in a statement.

The number of reporters who may attend the event is unclear whether Biden will call from a prepared list of journalists.

Former President Donald Trump has regularly hosted lengthy and belligerent press conferences with journalists. In contrast, Biden takes few questions from reporters during events.

When Biden answers reporters on the White House lawn or in the Oval Office, his answers are usually short.

Biden (78) is notorious for oral gaffs that sometimes derive from his political agenda. For example, last week, Psaki cleared up Biden’s recent unwritten remark to an Indian-American scientist that immigrants from India ‘take over the country’.

Psaki indicated at a press conference that it is possible that Biden will receive a list of approved journalists during his first press conference.

The White House press office sharply curtailed the access of journalists in January when Biden took office – citing the COVID-19 pandemic – and asked some reporters at recent press conferences to send questions in advance.
