Driving a country requires a lot of things, and one of those things is a lot of vehicles. Currently, the vast majority of vehicles – if not all – run on some kind of fossil fuel, but according to an announcement made by President Biden on Monday, that will change.

The current federal vehicle fleet is estimated at about 645,000 vehicles, and President Biden plans to replace all of them with U.S.-made electric vehicles. The U.S. portion of this is necessary because the announcement was part of Biden’s executive order “Made In America,” which diverts a significant portion of government spending to U.S. businesses and U.S. products.

The announcement comes after much talk during Biden’s presidential campaign to push Americans more toward electric vehicles and cleaner energy in general. Unfortunately, the administration did not include a timeline with its proclamation, and it is then someone’s guess when the switch will begin.

The current U.S. Navy delivery services fleet is large among federal Navy vehicles, many of which still have the Grumman LLV which became the post office of the post office in the eighties. Several companies have bid for the contract to build the LLV replacement, but so far nobody was selected.
