The Biden government plans to reopen a center for migrant children detained on the country’s southwestern border, the government confirmed in a statement to Fox News on Wednesday.
The Department of Health and Human Services plans to reactivate a temporary influx care facility in Carrizo Springs, Texas, for the possible care of unaccompanied foreign children, as needed.
The facility will initially be able to accommodate about 700 migrating children, but if necessary, capacity can be added. The government expects to house unaccompanied foreign children who have been cleared of the COVID-19 quarantine within 15 days. It will not accommodate children under the age of 13.
The site has been uninhabited since July 2019.

The DHS noted that influx care facilities are one way to pull migrant children out of U.S. customs and border protection facilities and see that they have access to services ranging from medical care to education.
Once the government has been referred to the Refugee Relocation Office, it is working to assign children to the appropriate care facilities and release children to suitable sponsors as their immigration cases continue.
News of the overflow facility was first reported by CNN on Wednesday.

The control center begins as fears for the border climb amid hopes of easing restrictions under the current government, as previously reported by Fox News.
By law, the government must take care of unaccompanied foreign children who have no immigration status in the US and no legal guardian in the US, and who are not yet 18 years old.
