The grant from the health center comes as the federal government increases the number of vaccine doses sent to states by 5 percent to 11 million doses per week. White House officials informed governors during a call earlier Tuesday about the increase.
Why it matters: Health centers reach nearly 30 million patients a year. The facilities usually cater to medically underserved populations, and may be the main centers of primary care for rural areas.
The CDC last week released data showing strong racial and ethnic differences in the country’s vaccination effort, and the Biden government has promised improvements. In the first month of vaccinations, more than 60 percent were vaccinated white, compared to just over 5 percent who were black and 11.5 percent who were Spanish.
