Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks just repaired the bar on WrestleMania 37.
When Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley only went on to win the WWE title on Saturday night after a delay due to inclement weather, it was 100% clear that Belair and Banks would be free to do something special in the main event.
What they did was historic.
There are many who are part of a WrestleMania main event that is historic, but somehow these two delighted in the event. They hit the ring as bitter rivals, but did not start fighting as soon as the bell rang. Instead, both seemed close to tears, given the monumental scene.
According to Abhilash Mendhe of Sportskeeda, as previously explained by Banks before The Show of Shows, the scene is this: “[This] is the first time ever that two African-American women will be in the foreground [breaks into tears] A WrestleMania. It’s crazy because it’s bigger than me. And I think that’s what the beautiful thing is. ‘
Given the talent involved, it’s not too surprising that Banks and Belair manage to live up to the high expectations and what they can consider to be one of the best WrestleMania main events ever.
Simply put, the people behind the fact that they booked the match knew what they were doing from the jump here. It would not be surprising to find out that the company had this exact match in mind when it anointed Belair as the female Royal Rumble winner.
Put another way, Banks is the perfect fit for Belair; also not just from a mentor point of view. They proved the far-reaching aspect of the idea Saturday night when they combined for a jaw-dropping performance after performance. Whether it was Belair who wore her opponent and threw her in the ring after catching a diving attempt or just walking her around, Banks’ status as one of the best sellers in the company made things as good as what they can get.
Through it all, the game has found that rare balance that seems small. There were a few finishes though, but it never felt like it was overdone. There was a few finish spam, but not too much. Despite the fact that they were desperate – even when her side was torn open by Belair’s curly hair – it never looked right. The whole match felt like a 50-50 case.
It takes a lot of ambition and even more talent to get everything together during a normal match, let alone one that restores the stage with long implications for all walks of life.
Please note that this was the first major event with fans in the stands in more than a year WWE slowly creeping out of the pandemic era, a little more pressure making the performance of these two Superstars all the more impressive.
It’s just fitting that the beam is restored here, and positions that are all wonderfully involved from a story perspective as well. Belair’s rise to top-of-the-map status has now been determined and she’s never going anywhere A maniacal moment like this.
Even in a loss, Banks gets the reward of also holding a WrestleMania in a historic show. Reward, because she was one of the few Superstars who somehow managed to thrive during the strange deaf era and did not have setbacks in various fields.
The Boss has always been one of the best in the world, but she behaved like a running business at a time when everyone needed her the most. She is now sitting with a legacy contest over what was already a Hall of Fame resume.
In a way, the whole game was pretty symbolic of the whole night. A ho-hum card apparently exceeded expectations at every turn, while Lashley won the long-term and brought something special to the boards. can do a passion for it if given the chance.
Banks and Belair, however, rightly went last, grabbed the moment and ran with it. It was not just a fun match that showcased two top talents and had a title change – it promoted wrestling as a whole in several areas.
