Bexar County, San Antonio leaders call for vaccination on COVID-19 North

SAN ANTONIO Bexar County District 3 Commissioner Trish DeBerry and three San Antonio City Council members, representing the North Side, are appealing to the Metropolitan Health District and the Bexar County Hospital District for a COVID-19 vaccination room. the northern part of the province.

Within the next week, Texas is expected to receive 200,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, which recently received emergency approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

DeBerry says the consignment gives the city and province the opportunity to create a new vaccination site.

“The approval and dispatch of Johnson & Johnson FDA creates a unique opportunity for the city and county to work together through the distribution of vaccines,” DeBerry said in a written statement.

District 8, 9 and 10 councilors Manny Pelaez, John Courage and Clayton Perry have joined Deberry in requesting a new vaccination site in northern Bexar County.

Pelaez said the website would make it easier to access vaccines.

“Ease is the key to success,” Pelaez said. “By placing another place where ingredients live and work, the greater the chance that we will slow down the spread of the virus.”

Provincial officials said more than 200,000 people had received a vaccine through City Square at the Alamodome and the province at the Wonderland of the Americas shopping center.

Courage said the current vaccination sites do not achieve their goals of vaccinating under-employed populations.

‘The current vaccination clinics are not succeeding in vaccinating their target to the most underserved populations. The data show that a greater number of residents of the North are vaccinated at these clinics. Why is it no longer comfortable for our constituents? We are not saying the clinics should take you away, we are just adding more, ‘Courage said in a written statement.

  • The local leaders are proposing the following sites as possible vaccination sites in northern Bexar County, as they are on easily accessible highways:

  • Toyota field on Wurzbach Parkway

  • VIA Park and Ride on Highway 281

  • Alzafar Temple on Loop 1604

  • Fiesta Texas on Interstate 10

‘If the plan is to continue with the vaccination clinics in our community, we need a COVID vaccination site north of Loop 410. We have been told that the problem is not a lack of available places, but rather a lack of supply. As more vaccines become available online, it is imperative that we provide closer access to vaccines for our vulnerable populations across the community, ”Perry said in a written statement.
