Beware of unofficial company messages; more than 270,000 customers affected by power outages

SAN ANTONIO CPS Energy has addressed ‘false messages’ on social media following a series of power outages affecting the San Antonio and Bexar County area.

According to the company, “unofficial CPS Energy messages” are being spread on social media.

“WARNING: unofficial CPS Energy messages are being spread across social media,” the company said Tuesday. “Although we offer several updates daily, you should know that it did NOT come from CPS Energy.”

The messages described by the energy company talk about the state issuing an ‘electric cargo warning’. The report talks about, among other things, the failure of the network and the inability to support ‘critical infrastructure’, such as hospitals.

CPS Energy President and CEO Paula Gold-Williams said Tuesday that more freezing rain in Tuesday night’s forecast will be a challenge in the company’s efforts to restore power to hundreds of thousands of San Antonio residents.

Currently, more than 280,000 San Antonio residents are without power due to the icy temperature that affected their ability to generate power.

Gold-Williams said every source of energy – including wind, solar, coal, natural gas and nuclear energy – has been affected in some way.

About two-thirds of the CPS Energy grids still have rotating interruptions. The other one-third of the network remains powered because the circuits provide critical services, such as a hospital, base or police department.

The ‘intensity of freezing temperatures did some damage’ to the electricity company’s ability to supply power, Gold-Williams said. “Although we do see improvement. We are not out of the woods. ”
