It has been confirmed that the upcoming Galaxy S21 Ultra will support the S Pen, but we were not sure of the implementation. Since the S21 Ultra does not have a Note-like slot to accommodate the stylus, the solution would not be particularly elegant. Unfortunately, that seems to be exactly the case. A new leak shows us how Samsung wants you to keep the optional S Pen, and reminds us of one of the recent budget tablets.

The S Pen itself is your regular running pen and is very reminiscent of the one Samsung included with the Tab S7. It is said to be pressure sensitive using a Wacom digitizer and can be used as a remote control for your presentations and camera shutter. On top of that, it supports all kinds of air gestures with the on-board accelerometer. We understand that all the wireless features require battery power, but it is not clear how exactly the S Pen should charge.

We do know how to wear it. It turns out that one of the covers for the S21 family we saw last week has a slot for inserting the S Pen. Samsung has clearly taken a page from its own book here and redesigned a design choice that might work with the budget tablets for its top-of-the-line flagship for 2021. If you use the style of the S21 Ultra, you will too that extraordinary suitcase has to endure unless some third-party manufacturers come up with a smarter solution.

Unlike Note phones, the S21 Ultra is not shipped with the S Pen in the box; Samsung plans to sell it as an optional accessory for € 40, or about $ 50 at direct conversion. The company may offer phone and stylus bundles (complete with a first-party case), but no pricing details for any of them were shared in this leak. We will probably take note of this next week when Samsung unpacks its 2021 smartphone range.
