Texture Streaming has been added on PC to Modern Warfare and Warzone Season 1 on PC, along with new Texture Packs for consoles which reduces the size of the game by at least 25 GB.
As updates arrived for the Call of Duty reload, the game’s already large file size continued to grow, especially on a PC. To combat this, mode-specific removal options were added in October, allowing players to choose which Modern Warfare modes they want to install – to accommodate the growing size of Warzone.
Now further changes have been made to reduce the significant files on your hard drive. Texture Streaming is “designed to reduce the overall package size of the game by removing certain textures that are rarely used or removed by players.”
Since Warzone will remain ‘front and center’ for the Call of Duty franchise for a long time to come, there is a good chance that players will always need space for the Battle Royale shooter and the latest CoD title.
How to reduce the size of the computer file for Modern Warfare & Warzone
Instead of having Texture Packs installed, high-resolution textures on Operators and Weapons are now streamed to your computer’s case as needed. Streaming textures instead of having them installed reduces the file size of the game.
Players can control their bandwidth usage and set a daily limit via the Modern Warfare Options menu. Activision says that “even with this flexibility, you should not see any bandwidth effects when texture stream is enabled.”
When graphics are set to High, high resolution textures are streamed on weapons and drivers, while players on low and medium settings are not affected.
You also do not need to have Texture Streaming enabled, you can disable it in the Options menu. If you have Texture Streaming disabled but have a high graphics version, ‘you will still see high resolution textures on other assets in the game.’
How to reduce the console file size for Modern Warfare & Warzone
Texture streaming is not supported on consoles, which is why Activision console players have given new Texture Packs. It is designed to have the same result as Texture Streaming, which removes rare textures to reduce the file size.
Modern Warfare & Warzone – PS4 Pro and Xbox One
If you are a Playstation Pro or Xbox One X user, you will be asked to download the DLC the first time you log in to the game. After accepting it, you will be taken to the Game Installs menu, where you can download the Texture Pack. If you decline, you can find the download through the Game Installs menu.
PS4 and Xbox One users will not receive the request, so find the download in the Game Installs menu and follow the steps there.
Modern Warfare and War Zone – PS5 and Xbox Series X
These texture packs are also available on current consoles. Similar to the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, a fast, high-resolution texture pack will be offered at first sign-up.
These packages should help improve the performance of Modern Warfare & Warzone and also reduce the space they take up on their respective platforms.
