Bengals find Larry Ogunjobi of Browns in NFL-free agency

The Cincinnati Bengals ended a busy day with the signing of Larry Ogunjobi, who was a striking defensive line at the Cleveland Browns. According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Ogunjobi has agreed to negotiate a one-year deal with Cincinnati.

Ogunjobi, a player in his fifth year in 2021, was originally a third choice by the Browns in the NFL draft in 2017. He played college football at Charlotte, and his high-level production and athletics test got him ‘. made a day 2 choice.

In his four years at the Browns, Ogunjobi played in 60 games and started 47 of them. He recorded 14.5 sacks, 108 solo tackles and 29 tackles for loss in Cleveland, with 11 of the sacks just coming out of the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

While Ogunjobi – who later turned 27 – has always been able to deliver splash performances, he has never become a steady force for the Browns. In 2019, Cleveland signed Sheldon Richardson to play 3-technique and consequently Ogunjobi moved to the nose tackle. Richardson has been the more consistent player for the past two years, which is probably why the Browns decided to let Ogunjobi test the market.

2020 was definitely a minor year for Ogunjobi as he has had a low career in PFF defense (51.4) and pass rate (56.2) but he is still a young player with an athletic and productive background. This one-year deal gives Ogunjobi the chance to bounce back next year and reach the market when the salary cap is significantly higher.

It should also be noted that Ogunjobi is training with Geno Atkins and is good friends, who are still in Bengals from now on.

This signing may indicate that Atkins continues to play with someone he is close to for another year. If that is not the case, the Bengals replace their long-standing 3-technique with a player whose front looked a lot like Atkins’.
