ATLANTA – Jake Paul says Ben Askren was happy that the Triller Fight Club mainline was stopped.
After Askren was dropped early in the first round of his boxing match with Paul at the Mercedes-Benz Arena on Saturday, he got up again and tried to fight. He was on shaky legs though, and the referee decided he had seen enough and swerved it down at the point 1:59 of Round 1.
Askren seemed upset that he did not get the chance to continue, but Paul said things would get worse if he did.
“Of course he’s going to protest against it, just like every f * cking fighter who loses,” Paul told MMA Junkie after the fight. ‘Happy for Ben Askren, because I still had a big maternal right hand coming towards him, and he would have been unconscious for much longer than that. The ref saved him.
“He is happy. He would have been an even bigger meme. It would have been more viral if they had turned him into the fight again. I had a big, big punch for him. ‘
Paul 24 said he knows people will not give him the right time after beating Askren, a former Bellator and ONE champion title holder who retired at the age of 36 to join the boxing ring to take. In the end, though, he does not care.
Paul’s passion for the fighting game is real, he said, and he promises to take it seriously. He does not want to know what it feels like to be on the other side of the coin that Askren experienced, and he said that is why he will continue to put in the work for every fight – no matter if his opponent not considered legal. or not.
