Beautiful IKO-like VR game coming soon

The first new Oculus Quest game announcement of 2021 is the visually stunning Mare.

Mare was actually announced years ago, but recently reappeared in the upcoming section of the Oculus Quest store. This is the first we’ve heard of a Quest version of the title, announced since 2016 for ‘Oculus Platforms’. The game is a third-person adventure with a mix of game styles, but takes clear inspiration from the Fumita Ueda classic, Ico. Check out the eye-catching visual style in the trailer below.

Version of Mare Oculus Quest confirmed

In the game you will lead a young girl to explore a mysterious dungeon using movement regulators and an artificial bird that rises high above. Game seems to consist of a mixture of puzzles and exploration, spread over eight chapters. It is also breathtaking to look at, and displays crumbling ruins and cloudy skies. Its inspiration is clear, and if it can fetch this visual fidelity on Quest, it’s one of the most beautiful games on the platform.

A final release date for the game has not been given, but developer Visiontrick Media tweeted that it would come “at the very beginning” of the year, so we’ll hopefully talk weeks. We presented Mare in our pre-show for the very first E3 VR showcase in 2019. Suffice it to say that we have been patiently waiting for this one.

We look forward to seeing Mare later this year. No other versions of the game have been released yet. Are you looking forward to the game? Let us know in the comments below!
