Beats the Bajeezus from the Bruins: Caps beat Bruins 8-1

The Washington Capitals and Boston Bruins have fought for the sixth time this season as the Caps start a long distance against the better teams in the Eastern Division to end this season.

TJ Oshie stayed warm during the power play and fired the first goal of the collision of the match. Lars Eller pulled out a defender and shot him in front of goal to make it 2-0. Conor Sheary closed out a tic-tac-toe game to give the Caps a well-known three-goal lead. That guy again, Sheary found the roof of the net to make it four.

Nic Dowd cut a high glove to give the lead even more. Tom Wilson taps half a dozen home. Craig Smith broke the lock. TJ Oshie out of the air for the extra point. Lars Eller sent on his second game at home.

We’re going to dance.

Caps beat Bruins 8-1!

  • Quite a fantastic first period against a built-up Bruins team. The shells were hard on smallpox, first smallpox, and put smallpox in the net. Even more important to me is that I thought their defensive distance was very good for the first 18 or so minutes of the period and only broke late in the frame due to bad ice and accident.
  • Brenden Dillon fought within the first four minutes of action and some may point out that it was the spark for such a big period. I do not, but some people can. I think another defender of Caps, Dmitri Orlov earn the spotlight for starting this game. Dima moved to the top pair and was an outburst of one man in the first.
  • Man, Conor Sheary was a hell of a pickup for just $ 735,000 this season. His setback and stick lift saved a probable goal and he ended up on the top shelf twice to set the Caps up three and then four. That’s now ten goals for Sheary in 39 games this season.
  • It’s hard for teams in the NHL not to face a downward period in a game when they rise with multiple goals. The Caps were not immune to that, as the Browns scored five-to-five in the second period. Vitek Vanecek made three or four good saves, and this led to his team supporting his efforts with even more goals. Good, Vitek.
  • The Caps had six matches, looked very good on everyone who mattered and took care of three of them (Oshie’s second goal was just after the fifth match expired). The Browns have the best penalty kills in the league, but were without four defenders, so that might have something to do with it. Still definitely a very positive evening for the unit as a whole. They toss the biscuit around as if it were nothing.
  • Every Caps forward has had at least one point in this game.
  • Wes McCauley is my favorite official in the league if I had to pick a favorite. You will never have a question about the punishment mentioned once West has his arm up.

Next for the Caps is an appointment with the Philadelphia Flyers who lost again tonight against the Sabers. As you can see, they need a win to keep their very meager playoff hope alive.
