Bears were suitors for Saints QB Jameis Winston

The Chicago Bears’ hunt for a starting quarterback included an effort to sign New Orleans Saints backup and the former first-round pick of the 2015 NFL draft, Jameis Winston.

The attempt failed, of course, as Winston agreed to a one-year deal to return to the Saints Monday night.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Bears made a pass at Winston that was incomplete.

Interestingly, Brad Biggs, a longtime Bears reporter, tweeted that Winston was a ‘Plan B’ at Halas Hall, suggesting GM Ryan Pace wants his face on a bigger catch.

Russell Wilson, maybe?

At this point it is Wilson or bust. Free agents like Andy Dalton and Ryan Fitzpatrick offer nothing more than Nick Foles, and it simply does not make sense to invest any guaranteed money or free agent dollars in them.

Here’s the hope that Pace still has great success in the tank.
