Bears asked to talk to George Edwards about DC work

The Chicago Bears have a vacancy with the defense coordinator, and they are taking their time to investigate all internal and other candidates to replace Chuck Pagano, who retired this offseason.

Following a report that the Bears requested to interview Jonathan Gannon, the coach of the Indianapolis Colts defense, Chicago also requested to speak with George Edwards, defense assistant of the Dallas Cowboys, about their opening of the defense coordinator, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.

If the Bears are looking for experience in the defense coordinator position, Edwards might be their guy. Prior to serving as Dallas’ senior defense assistant, Edwards was Minnesota’s defense coordinator from 2014-19. Prior to that, he also served as defense coordinator for the Buffalo Bills (2010-11) and the Washington Football Team (2003).

Interestingly, Edwards interviewed the Bears coaching vacancy in 2018 before Matt Nagy was appointed. So he is someone who was on their radar.

There are reports that the Bears are also considering internal candidates for the defense coordinator position, namely defense coach Jay Rodgers and safety coach Sean Desai.
