Duce Staley has been an Eagles assistant for ten seasons, but the franchise’s longtime rugby coach has landed on the Bears’ radar.
The Bears are interested in former NFL candidate for the HC, Adam Jahns of The Athletic tweets. While Staley had previously arrived in Philly Doug Pederson, he worked with Matt Nagyformer Chiefs colleague for five seasons.
The Eagles are likely to bring in a bunch of new assistants after hiring Colts OC Nick Sirianni as their Pederson replacement. Staley was on the radar for the job that Sirianni landed, but he does not appear to be getting much traction during Philadelphia’s search. He was also transferred for Philly’s OC post when the team promoted Mike Groh in 2018.
Nagy saw two of his attacking assistants – QBs’ coach Dave Ragone and running coach Charles London – Lack of the Falcons this week. London will be the new QBs coach from Atlanta, under the new Falcons OC Ragone. Nagy will have to replace these staff members, and Staley has extensive experience as offensive staff.
Staley, who has been the RBs coach of Philadelphia since 2013, started his career at the quality control level two years earlier. He worked under Pederson, Chip Kelly and Andy Reid. The Eagles named him their acting head coach during Pederson’s fight with COVID-19 last summer. But with Sirianni coming in, it’s unclear whether Staley stays in the Eagles’ plans, and whether he wants to continue working as a post coach at a new Eagles HC.
