Bay Area Hotel declares bankruptcy and kicks all its guests, including NHL team

The Baymont Fairmont Hotel’s sudden filing for bankruptcy has left guests scrambling to find accommodation – including one professional sports team.

On Friday, San Jose Fairmont closed downtown after a Chapter 11 filing. Guests were told to leave, although the Fairmont did pay for their new rooms in nearby hotels.

The Vegas Golden Knights, in town for a two-game series against the Sharks, had just finished their pre-game meal when they were informed by the hotel staff that they had to pack up and leave. The team did find a new hotel where they stayed Friday night.

“I think this is the first time for everyone on our team,” defender Nick Holden told the Associated Press.

In a press release, hotel representative Sam Singer said Fairmont will reopen within 60 to 90 days after finding a new ‘management partner’.

“We know that through this difficult step, we will deliver a more vibrant hotel for the benefit of all in San Jose, including the vibrancy of the city center, nearby businesses and Silicon Valley events in a post-COVID-19 world.” Singer said.

The closure of the San Jose Fairmont’s website does not mention the closure, but the search for reservations shows no availability. The site also boasts a recent $ 10 million transformation of the lobby.

The luxury hotel with 20 floors opened in downtown San Jose in the late 1980s. It has more than 800 rooms and suites for guests, plus a rooftop pool.
