Bat sounded in its second season with an overarching mystery: What happened to Kate Kane? Sunday’s premiere delivery began with the plane from Kate to National City crashing near the river and newcomer Ryan Wilder (played by Javicia Leslie) discovered the suit under the rubble. Kate’s body has not been recovered, which gives some – including Luke Fox and Kate’s father, Jacob Kane – hope that she may still be alive. Others like her twin sister Alice, however, gave up the idea that the former vigilante survived the fiery collision and is still somewhere.

With Kate not in action, Bat showrunner Caroline Dries says questions surrounding her disappearance will soon not disappoint.

“It remains an ongoing story,” she tells TVLine. “I appreciate people saying, ‘Please do not drag me through this. We know Ruby [Rose, who exited the series in May] is no longer on the program. ‘My desire is for it to feel incredibly satisfying, and it takes you through a rollercoaster. All the characters have a vested interest in finding Kate and have their own point of view on what happened to her. I think the journey to the end result will be worth riding along. ‘

Batwoman Season 2 PremiereThe absence of Kate means that Wilder enters as the new Batwoman, and that her rise to superhero status will bring its own complications. During the season 2 premiere, Tommy Elliot (who was wearing Bruce Wayne’s face) shot her with kryptonite, leaving remnants of the crystalline material in the wound. Dries says things “will only get worse” for Ryan after she failed the Bat team to tell the extent of her injury.

‘It’s a metaphor for many things to be shot with this kryptonite. Ryan has to be a hero and prove herself while dealing with the big problem of having kryptonite in her blood and keeping it a secret from the whole world, ‘Dries explains. ‘For me, as a writer, it’s a kind of metaphor for women and people of color in particular, [who] must in addition to proving themselves and with which they struggle to be secret to be accepted or accepted. ‘

The wound will be important to Ryan, who in addition to her new Batwoman duties will also deal with homelessness and unemployment.

‘If she were to admit something affects her [like the kryptonite]she feels like she’s seen as weak, and that’s the one thing she can not afford to be seen now. You’re going to watch her fight during the season and rely on Luke and Mary, whose main focus is finding Kate, ‘says Leslie. ‘Ryan knows this, and there is this constant comparison with [Kate]. After a while, Ryan is like, “I’m here, and you do not even see me.” ‘

According to Dries, Luke will be reluctant to accept Wilder as the new Batwoman, as it also means she accepts that Kate is dead. “He’s really struggling with that,” Dries adds. ‘Nothing against Ryan, it’s he does not want to say goodbye to Kate. Since Ryan and Luke’s dynamics start with a little friction, it will become a real brother-sister dynamic. But in the end, Ryan has to put her foot down to be like, ‘Look, I’m the one wearing the symbol. I’m the one taking the bullets. I’m the one who literally puts herself in a bad way, so I’m the leader here. I’m Batwoman. “They get respectful for her, but there is always so much pressure and pull. Everyone has opinions in that bat. ”
