Batman v Superman Writer Hates the original, darker end of WB

Chris Terrio, the screenwriter behind Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Zack Snyder’s Justice League, broke his silence over his experience working with Waner Bros. work on two DC movies. And he was not happy. In a new interview with Vanity Fair, Terrio talks about his experiences with Batman v Superman, after which he was brought in to review an existing text, and Justice League which he hoped would be a chance to start. fresh before director Zack Snyder leaves and replaces DC Joss Whedon.

In one part of the interview, Terrio says he admits to complaints with both of his DC movie scripts, but says this is what happens when entire portions of the text are cut out to save length. As for the other criticism that his vision of the DC universe is too dark, Terrio says that the version of Batman v Superman he was hired to rewrite was even darker.

Terrio says that he ‘went to the mat’ with WB and argued that although Batman could start the film as this unrecognizable dark character, he should end it on a path to salvation – a theme that Terrio had hoped to continue in Justice League.

‘[Batman] must see the error of his ways and remember his better self in the course of the film. At the end of the film, he should be the Batman we know, and he should be ready to create the Justice League, ”said Terrio.

Terrio also had original ideas, such as Superman, ‘make hell rain on black African Muslim characters in the desert’, after Lois was beaten by one of her kidnappers early in the film. “I wanted to say [to WB]”I saved you from yourselves!” Say Terrio. ” I work with the director to bring a voice of conscience and mind into the almost distorted dark film you’ve been developing for years, but I’m the problem here? ”

The screenwriter says that despite his experience with Batman v Superman, he signed on to write Justice League for the chance to write these characters with ‘love and hope’, but the working conditions for the film were also complicated. The Wonder Woman text, for example, was not finished when Terrio wrote Justice League, which is why he says he had no basis for writing Wonder Woman or Aquaman.

And while Terrio declined to comment on how Joss Whedon handled the recessions and said he had never met Joss and did not know him, after watching Whedon’s cut from the Justice League, Terrio told his lawyer called to try to get his name from the version of the movie.

But the removal of his name so close to the release of the film would have delayed the film, causing a scandal. “So I kept quiet and did not say anything in public. I have never said anything about Justice League since, but the film does not represent my work. ”

As for the Snyder track, Terrio Snyder praises that he recorded a large part of his text intact, and he gladly accepts the criticism or praise because it is his original version on screen.

‘People do have problems with this version of the film … But I can take it, because it’s a real critique of my work. This is an honest game and with which I will participate every day. People can quarrel with the movie, but at least they quarrel with my version and with Zack’s version of the movie. ”
