Tucker Barnhart’s third hit of the game beat Eugenio Suarez from third base in the top of the 10th innings to beat the Cincinnati Reds 6-5 over the Arizona Diamondbacks Friday night in Arizona’s home team.

Cincinnati escaped with the victory, their sixth in a row, after squandering a 5-0 lead after six and a half innings. Barnhart’s knockout thrower Alex Young was second of the game against a left-hander. In the past, Barnhart has struggled strongly against the left stand.

Amir Garrett retired the home team under the 10th over to earn his first save. After a crossroads between Garrett and Barnhart led runners to move to second and third place on a successful ball with two outs, Carson Kelly deliberately walked to load the base. Garrett retired Pavin Smith from second baseman Kyle Farmer to clinch the victory.

The offense

Barnhart was one of two Reds with three hits, and another of the early-season Red-hot hitters continued his striking performance.

After his fourth inning, Naquin led the way in homers (5), RBIs (14), slugging (1,048) and OPS (1,488). By the end of the evening, Naquin’s slumber was at 1,000 and his OPS at 1,444, third overall behind Nick Castellanos and Yermin Mercedes.

Jesse Winker had hits in his first three plate appearances, but was lifted from the match after scoring a sacrificial fly from Eugenio Suarez in the fifth point. Winker apparently jumped unusually a few times during his trip from third to home, and then again while going to the dugout. Later in the game, it was reported that Winker had a tight calf muscle.

The pitching

The starter Tyler Mahle hit four innings, but he needed 92 stands to get it done. Early in the season, it’s probably the top threshold of stands that any Reds pitcher may throw.

Then we had the pleasure of watching Tejay Antone. Television broadcaster John Sadak reported that one Antone pitch in the fifth shift was at 100 mph. Baseballsavant.com had it at 99.5.

This is not the first time you hear it, nor is it the last time: Antone MUST be moved to the rotation. He has perhaps the best stuff in the team, and to play him in a mid- and long-range lighting role is an abuse of his talent. Baseballsavant.com says its AVERAGE vertical break from its curveball is 53 centimeters. It’s four feet, five inches. Try to hit a pitch that breaks so much. And try to do it with the knowledge that the pitch is going to be more frequent than not a strike.

Cam Bedrosian was marked with three runs in Arizona in the seventh innings. He was the least effective member of the bullpen and seems to be sitting on a very short rope. The bullpen as a whole was a disappointment, with the non-anton lighters running four in four innings.

Notes worth noting

Right now, everything works for Cincinnati.
