It was a great weekend to be a fan of Barcelona, while the Copa del Rey on Saturday is followed by another twist in the title race on Sunday.
The leaders Atletico Madrid came back to life with a 5-0 victory over Eibar, but Real Madrid dropped points after they drew against Getafe.
The results mean that Barcelona will be crowned champions if they win their last eight matches, which includes a visit to Atletico Madrid next month.
Of course, that’s much easier said than done, but it’s definitely another boost for Ronald Koeman’s team who can dream of winning the doubles.
All three of the title fighters are back in action in the middle of the week. Real Madrid play Cadiz on Wednesday, while Atletico host Huesca on Thursday and Barca welcome Getafe.
The Catalan giants should be at a peak after Saturday’s impressive win over Athletic, but the timing of the matches means Koeman’s men could be eight points from the top, albeit two matches in hand, before Thursday’s match begins.
The visit from Getafe is one of four home games that Barca left behind in the Camp Nou. Granada, Atletico and Celta must also visit before the end of the campaign, while Barca must still go to Villarreal, Valencia, Levante and Eibar.
