An unmasked woman who coughed an Uber driver in San Francisco and grabbed his cell phone in a bad rage admitted that she was disrespectful, but claimed the situation could have been avoided. (Watch the video below.)
Video of the confrontation went viral as police investigated. No arrests have been made since Tuesday, police told HuffPost. The names of the passengers were not disclosed.
According to police, the driver picked up the three women Sunday, but the ride ended a while later because one refused to wear a mask. That was when the confrontation broke out, with one of the passengers coughing at the driver, grabbing his cell phone and pulling off his mask while the other two shouted insults and insults.
In a social media grab spotted by San Francisco’s CBS branch on Tuesday, the coughing passenger gave her side of the story and downplayed her aggression. “All I did was take off his mask and cough a little,” she said.
“OK, yes, I’m not going to lie,” she continues. “It was disrespectful as fuck. For that, I was wrong. But it could have been avoided. ”
She accused the driver of trying to drop the passengers off in an unsafe neighborhood. “He could have just waited and made sure we were safe,” she said.
She threatened to sue Uber, which in a statement on Monday called the passengers’ behavior “horrific” and banned her. Then she improvised Uber’s competitor.
“That’s why I take Lyft!” she declares.
She no longer does. Lyft also forbade her.
“Although this Lyft platform was not involved in the incident, the unacceptable treatment of the driver in this video forced us to permanently remove the rider from the Lyft community,” the company said in a statement to KPIX. Driving in a pandemic is not easy. Please wear a mask, respect each other and be a good person. ‘
The driver, Subhakar Khadka, said one of the women sprayed him with pepper spray when they left the vehicle. Khadka, 32, from Nepal, also said the women were shouting exuberant remarks because he was an immigrant.
In other videos that preceded the altercation, the women refused to leave the vehicle until another Uber arrived, and Khadka threatened to drop them off “in the middle of the highway” if they did not go out immediately, CBS noted. .
