Avengers campus will open at Disneyland on June 4

New superhero recruits will be able to experience Disneyland’s Avenger campus on June 4, Disney said Thursday during a webcast of the theme park.

The new territory is an extension of Disney’s Disney Adventure Park in Anaheim, California and contains Marvel’s most powerful heroes of the earth and the stars.

“What I can tell you is fantastic,” Josh D’Amaro told CNBC before the webcast. “I think it’s going to be an incredible addition to California Adventure. If you think about it [Marvel Cinematic Universe] and what’s happening on that front, as recently as ‘WandaVision’, it’s hot. This is a hot franchise. And we now have the ability to open this thing to the world. ‘

The park was originally scheduled to open in July last year, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, theme parks in California have been excluded since March 2020.

Disney’s two parks in Anaheim will reopen on April 30 and will start at 15%.

The new land took the place of A Bug’s Land and includes the existing Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission: Breakout ride on the edge of Hollywood Land. It also features a new Spider-Man attraction, a eatery called Pym Particles Test Kitchen and an area based on Dr. Strange.

“We have the best playground for Marvel,” D’Amaro said. ‘As fast as Kevin [Feige] and that Marvel team can create characters and create stories, we can integrate it. ‘

Disney has already teased that the Spider-Man ride will be based on the Worldwide Engineering Brigade, or WEB, a company that helps give ordinary people superpowers. The attraction gives guests the chance to test their websling vehicle. As they ride the vehicle, small spider collisions are released, and riders must advance it with their new powers.

Character encounters and greetings will be a big part of the Avengers campus. Thor, Black Panther, Black Widow and more will walk through the land – visitors can also catch a glimpse of the deceiver Loki.

D’Amaro has teased ‘entertainment’ and technological innovation, including the potential for the company’s stuntronics technology to be showcased in the country. Stuntronics is a project with which Disney pulled back the curtain in 2018. In essence, Disney’s Imagineering team and development lab created a robot that can swing like a real person and spin through the air.

In this case, the robot may look like Marvel’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

“There’s just going to be glasses,” D’Amaro said. “There are going to be things in front of your eyes that you can’t believe.”
