Miya Ponsetto, 22, was arrested Thursday during a stop at her home in Piru, located in Ventura County, the Sheriff’s Office in Ventura County said in a news release.
Authorities say she was arrested for a “fleeing warrant in connection with a recent assault on a hotel in New York.”
The sheriff’s office was booked at the detention facility in Ventura and is being held without bail.
Ponsetto was contacted by the sheriff’s deputies during a traffic stop near her home.
“She did not stop for deputies until she reached her residence, and she refused to get out of the car. Deputies forcibly removed her from the vehicle and arrested her for the outstanding warrant,” the news release said.
What Happened in New York City
The alleged assault took place last month at the Arlo SoHo boutique hotel in New York City.
Trumpeter Keyon Harrold posted a video taken with his phone showing the woman making claims against his son.
Harrold and his son are black and were guests at the hotel in Manhattan. The ethnicity of the woman in the video is not clear, although New York police describe her as White.
In the video, as Harrold and his son try to leave, the woman approaches them and says, “I will not let him walk away with my phone.” The video then shows her on the floor, but it is unclear how she ended up there. She comes to them again and the teenager’s father is heard shouting for her to get her hands off before the video cuts out.
In his Instagram post, Harrold said the woman scratched him and grabbed his son. He told NBC that the woman, after you cut the video, “tackled my son, trying to grab him in his pockets, grab me in my pockets.”
Harrold sustained minor injuries, but his son was not injured, New York police said.
CNN spoke to Ponsetto by telephone last week.
She claims she was assaulted during the altercation. CNN could not confirm her account with investigators or with the hotel where the incident took place. She disputes Harrold’s report on what happened.
Asked if she was worried about the possible charges and in general how she is portrayed in the video, she said: “Of course I’m worried. This is not who I am. I’m actually trying very hard to make sure that I always do the right thing. ‘
According to the sheriff’s office, there were also detectives from the NYPD to help coordinate Ponsetto’s arrest.
She will remain in custody pending an extradition hearing, according to the news release.
It is unclear whether she appointed a lawyer.
