Australian man takes legal action against Apple after ‘exploding’ iPhone X in his pocket

Apple is facing in Australia after an iPhone X user claimed that the device exploded in his pocket, leading to second-degree burns. As reported by 7 News, the incident took place in 2019 and the man is now taking legal action after Apple allegedly did not respond to his inquiries about the problem.

The report explains:

Scientist Robert De Rose was sitting in his office when he felt pain in his leg and heard a fizzling sound coming from his pocket.

“I heard a faint pop sound, followed by a fizz and then I felt intense pain on my right leg, so I immediately jumped up and realized it was my phone,” he told 7NEWS.

He takes his iPhone X out of his pocket, which was just over a year old, to find black smoke from it.

Because of the exploding iPhone X, De Rose says he sustained “second-degree burns” to his thigh. “I had ash everywhere, and my skin peeled back,” he said. 7NEWS. De Rose further claims that he reached out to Apple several times about the issue but never received a response.

De Rose says he is working closely with Carbone Lawyers to take legal action against Apple in seeking compensation. The firm also represents a second Melbourne man who claims “he was left with a burnt wrist after overheating his Apple Watch.”

An Apple spokesman said 7NEWS that the company takes the safety of customers seriously and that it investigates the two complaints. The two court cases were filed with the court.

But as we always say with these kinds of stories, it’s important to remember that there is only one user and that there are millions of iPhone X units and Apple Watch units in nature, so there’s no reason to fear that you device also can not burn. Such fires are extremely rare, but it will happen to any device sold in the millions upon millions.
