After three years in the state of Ohio, Max Wray is going to continue his college football career elsewhere.
The fourth-year attacking attacker made his name in the transfer portal, Elf Krygers Friday confirmed.
Wray was a four-star recruiter in the 2018 class and spent most of his career in the state of Ohio. He started last season against Michigan State on the right tackle, and he earned a champion honor for his performance against the Spartans, when both Thayer Munford and Nicholas Petit-Frere were unavailable due to COVID-19. However, he played just one offensive incident the rest of the season and would remain a backup in 2021, with Munford and Petit-Frere both still a year back.
Wray is expected to be one of the top backers in the state of Ohio for the upcoming season, so his departure could open up a spot in the second depth for a younger lineout. Paris Johnson Jr., who is expected to start with the right guard, could possibly take action if something happens to Munford or Petit-Frere, but others who can be backed up include Dawand Jones, Josh Fryar, Grant Toutant , Trey Leroux and true freshmen Ben Christman and Zen Michalski.
Wray is just the second player from last year’s Ohio battle roster to enter the transfer portal. He joins former Buckeye wide receiver Mookie Cooper, who entered the portal before the end of last season and is now in Missouri.
The state of Ohio currently has two open scholarships for 2021.
