Atlus wants to know if players want their games on Xbox

A new Atlus survey asks players what they want from the company in 2021, including whether the Xbox platform is worth investing in.

Atlus as a publisher and developer has made incredible progress over the past decade. What was once considered a niche market-oriented business has exploded thanks to instant items such as Person 5 and Persona 5 Royal. With the popularity and growth of the company, it continues to expand its games to new platforms, but it seems to have always overlooked an important one.

Atlus shows the interest of players in expanding its platform focus. In a recent survey, the company examines whether Xbox consoles are worth investing in ports and future releases.

Within the Japanese survey on question 55, fans noticed a new addition to the list of platforms. The survey now includes an “Xbox” option, a first in Atlus’ long tradition of broadcasting annual surveys. In February 2020, Atlus released a survey focusing on the Switch and PC platforms, similar to how this recently published one explores the possibilities of Xbox.

As for the games mentioned in the recording, it’s getting a little more interesting for fans of both the Person and the overarching Shin Megami Tensei franchises. The survey refers to some possible titles related to Personwhich some supporters have been demanding for years. The biggest one is the one mentioned Person 5 fighting game, probably in the style of Persona 4 Arena and Ultimax Arena. In addition, there are some strange options, including Person themed table games and even a strategic RPG. The survey is extensive and asks for a lot of insight from the Japanese player base, including whether Atlus should concentrate on remakes or remasters or not.

Although some players may quickly dismiss the survey, Atlus has certainly shown an effort to expand its IPs to new platforms. In 2020, Atlus released Persona 4 Gold on PC, which ended an exclusive eight-year PlayStation Vita game. With Persona 4 GoldThe successful launch on Steam with high sales and positive reception, makes sense for the publisher to investigate further platform expansion efforts.

The addition of Xbox as part of the Atlus survey is a turning point for the console market in Japan. After many years of being a Sony-dominated market, recent decisions by the console manufacturer have cast doubt on its support for the country. The questions surrounding this hub in the audience have even prompted Sony to reaffirm its commitment to the Japanese market. Atlus, which explores all options, therefore follows in the concerns of players and developers.
