Atlanta Braves’ Drew Smyly scratched from the start, placed on IL

The Atlanta Braves placed left-hander Drew Smyly on the 10-day injured list with inflammation in his left forearm before his scheduled start Friday against the Chicago Cubs.

The manager, Brian Snitker, told reporters that the hope is that Smyly will miss just one start.

The Braves recalled right-hander Kyle Wright from their alternate training ground to start Friday’s game. Wright makes his debut in 2021 after being 2-4 last season with an ERA of 5.21.

Smyly last lost Sunday 7-6 to the Philadelphia Phillies, a game decided by a review of an Alec Bohm slide on the home page. The 31-year-old pitcher is 0-0 with an ERA of 5.73 in two starts this season.

Striker Johan Camargo was also called up by Atlanta.

ESPN’s Jesse Rogers contributed to this report.
